Infinite Repeat, Infinite Loop
2008.08.25

What would Jules Verne have sounded like if he'd had a punk band? What would Led Zeppelin and David Bowie have sounded like if they'd been Vaudeville acts? We're not sure, but The Cassettes from Washington DC are probably the closest things you'll find to the answer. With a lineup boasting resonator guitar, keyboards, string bass, accordian, theramin and tablas, they're the DC area's premiere (and only) steampunk band. The Cassettes also hold a special place in our hearts--singer/guitarist Shelby Cinca also fronted seminal post-hardcore band Frodus, the second band ever played on GroundWaves way back in 1999.

Also from DC, The Mantras are a refreshing and welcome reminder of what "alternative" meant back when it meant something, mixing together elements of everything from the Psychedelic Furs to the Church to the Smiths.
