Thursday Night is Ladies' Night
2008.09.18

Three new female-fronted groups join the broadcast today! From across the pond we welcome London's 2 out of 3 rule. The mellow bass, brush-played drums and laid-back writing style perfectly compliment singer Claire Diamond's breathy vocals. The combination is reminiscent of Frente! or of Suddenly, Tammy! (if Beth Sorrentino had played guitar instead of piano)--and is similarly worth exclamation.

Baltimore MD's Ego Likeness is a solid mixture of goth industrial and triphop/trance music; we hear everything from early NIN to Eurhythmics in their music. We wish that these guys had been putting out records when we were wearing eyeliner in the underground.

DC's Juniper Lane is a piano-driven, guitar-heavy rock band that combines the best elements of anthemic arena rock and subculture enigma. The band does its best impression of War-era U2 while singer Vivion soars between Mazzy and Morissette--the song "Sides" actually sounds like it could have been written and recorded by Alanis. It's rare that we get a record at GroundWaves where we want to put every track in the broadcast, but Juniper Lane's Wake From Yourself is one of them.
