Better Than Basic
2008.11.10

Finlay Morton drops into the broadcast with his album Back to Basics, an etherial mix of country, blues and folk. The London-based minstrel's voice calls to mind his countrymen David Gilmore and Mark Knopfler, while his band's instrumentation is reminiscent of Tom Petty and Fleetwood Mac with overtones of Rufus Wainwright and the Pogues. Morton may be getting back to basics, but his well-crafted record is bringing up our baseline.
