Creative Authenticity
2008.11.25
From across the Atlantic comes the latest addition to the GroundWaves fold; a four-piece ensemble from Manchester, England known as The Nightjars (pictured left, click to enlarge). In a world where more and more bands are being "groomed" for corporate radio (aka the devil) it's refreshing to hear music that is a departure from the overly processed fodder currently being force fed to the masses. When one listens to "Valentine" or "Recognition in a Crowd" one can actually hear the inventive guitar work of Dan Sims and Phil Arnold but not at the expense of the other members' contributions. The drumming of Seamus O'Kane works in unison with Ollie Wright' bass to provide a rhythmic foundation that hearkens back to the Velvet Underground, while Ollie's vocals bring an imaginative quality that truly compliments the mix. What's awesome about The Nightjars is that these blokes deliver something that is quite rare these days... an authentic sound. What's their secret? Creative simplicity.
