Left Coast, Right Coast, and Hello Europe!
2009.04.01

Seattle's The Thoughts join the underground this month with select tracks from their debut LP Consider the Bear. While the Pacific Northwest used to be known as the Mecca of grunge, things have changed quite a bit over the years. The Thoughts more than fit in with the current Seattle music scene; their folk/rock sound brings levity and balance to the Emerald City scene and sets the table for other non-grunge artists. You're sure to think highly of The Thoughts (pun intended).

ArthurKill's sound isn’t just big... it's freakin' ginormous. These five sons of Staten Island really know how to rip it! Powerful guitar riffs, gut-busting bass lines, chest-pounding drum rhythms, commanding vocals... it’s all in there. AK's newest release, The Pain, delivers ten tracks of pure adrenalin including a rendition of the Beatles' "Come Together" that makes Aerosmith's version sound like "Blackbird." Prepare to have your face melted... it's a good thing!

Energy + Excitement = Evestus. This unique artist comes to us all the way from Estonia, bringing with him a unique blend of industrial/gothic goodness! This Is Dramacore, Evestus' 3rd album, is due out this year and GroundWaves can’t wait! Evestus is primed and ready to take on (or take over) the industrial music scene here in America. Look out gang... Evestus is coming!

I was a personally little skeptical before listening to tracks from Bix Medard's self-titled debut CD. After all, Bix and bandmate Peter Clasen are both based in Brussels, Belgium at the moment and I was certain that she would be singing in a language other than English. Nevertheless, I cued up Bix's tracks in my mp3 player and got ready to take a listen, all the while thinking I was just going to have to just soldier through it--but from the first notes of "C'est Si Bon" she had me. As I listened to her sultry yet somewhat airy voice juxtaposed against groovy bass lines and trippy monophonic synths, I just couldn't help myself. Almost instantly, I began humming and bopping along with the melodies. I didn't care that she was singing in French (at least, I think it was French), to be honest, I hardly even noticed. What I did take notice of was that Bix and Peter’s music is well arranged, well played and has a resonance that transcends the language barrier. Enjoy!
