New Artists, New Podcast, New Celebrity ID
2009.05.31

Joining the broadcast today are two exellent bands that exemplify what GroundWaves is all about. The Andalusians are a DC-based band who happen to be on the District's own world-famous Dischord label, the indie stable started by members of Fugazi. Basla Andolsun and her semi-rotating cast of bandmates produce a mix of indie, alt and even reggae that we find irresistable. From a bit further south, Richmond VA's Prabir and the Substitutes sound like a mix between the Fleshtones and the Monkees and are all party all the time. If you have a chance to see either of these bands live, don't pass it up!

Also new in the broadcast today is a new station ID from celebrity astronomer Neil deGrasse Tyson. I happened to sit by him at a special screeining of the new Star Trek movie, and he couldn't be a nicer guy. There we are below in blurrycam vision (I didn't realize how tall he is!).

And finally, the (barely) May podcast is now available for download. This month we feature The Exits, Gumshen, Static Free, Ecotone Refugees, Sweet Annie, RedRum, The Thoughts, Key of V and the Maz Mitrenko Band.
