Good God, it's 2010
2010.01.06

So... we've been a bit delinquent, haven't we. Let's get right into it.

Starting us off is the OTT Band from London, England. They mix a range of styles from punk to ska to dancehall to folk, and depending on the song we draw comparisons to different bands--the quirky and frenetic opening track on the CD, "Don't Know," sounds like the Ponsonby DC's, but "Sending in Lions" reminds us of the kids tunes that They Might Be Giants have done in the past (apart from its homage to Queen and Country); other tracks evoke comparisons to Madness and the Clash.

Originally from Anguilla in the Caribbean, Jahmings Maccow now hails from North Hollywood by way of New York. He brings with him an easy-listening take on straight-ahead reggae, which makes an already mellow music (except in cases like Peter Tosh) even more mellow.

Tuscon's Bloodshot Gamblers have a lot going on. Although their CD Pain & Other Simple Pleasures hints at a country/blues theme, that element is only slightly evident under the crunchy power chords and riff-heavy compositions they produce. Sounding like they'd be comfortable on stage with Bands from Extreme to Godsmack, we'll definitely put everything on red.
